Seven Metres Down

A steep challenge transformed into a flowing, multi-level garden.

With more than seven metres of fall from the street to the rear boundary, this substantial landscape was designed to work with the slope rather than fight it. Strong curves connect the different levels, with artificial turf flowing through the garden to an offset pergola, built-in seating and bluestone crazy-paved entertaining area. Beyond the pergola, a pathway leads to a hidden private seating area.

A dedicated dog area doubles as a Zen garden with full drainage and rounded steel edging, while mass-planted native grasses stabilise the steep bank and provide a natural backdrop to the open yard. Bluestone steppers, native planting and integrated lighting bring the different areas together, transforming a difficult sloping site into a practical, low-maintenance and inviting garden.
